Kingston Bus Station
The Site
Commissioned by Transport for London (TfL), Forge Design Studio provided VolkerFitzpatrick with specialist architectural expertise and technical design support, guiding the project from RIBA Plan of Work Stage 4 through to successful completion.
Completed in early 2026, Kingston Bus Station has been in continuous, 24 hour operation since its handover. Serving more than 17,000 passengers daily, it is a vital transport interchange in Kingston. We are delighted that, despite the demands of such a busy environment, the station continues to look as fresh and well maintained as it did on the day it was handed over to TfL.
The carefully selected materials and robust architectural detailing are performing exceptionally well, demonstrating their suitability for a high traffic, public facing environment. The design successfully balances the practical demands of a busy interchange with a considered architectural aesthetic, ensuring the station remains both functional and visually appealing.
The complex steel roof structure is a particularly striking feature of the project. Its distinctive form continues to make a strong architectural statement, while the natural weathering of the steel has enhanced its character and appearance over time. We are proud to have contributed to a facility that combines technical excellence, durability and architectural quality, while continuing to serve its community effectively.
