End of Summer Update…Part Two

The following projects demonstrate the flow of projects and work which we need to ensure the team is busy and productive.

Maintaining continuity and consistence of resource is always a challenge and we are incredibly lucky to have a loyal and dedicated team who between the 3 of them have been with the practice for more than 35 years. They are our backbone and have all helped with the following projects to a greater or lesser extent. This also gives an insight into the variety of projects, at all degrees of scale and involvement, which we get involved in -

RIBA Stage 3 Full Planning

  • Ceremonial Barn at West Barn Lodge

We recently received Planning Approval for the new ceremonial barn to compliment the existing facilities at West Barn Lodge Wedding Venue. Working directly for our client we have undertaken a number of projects in and around the site.

Being located on a green field in the AONB made for a some particularly challenging issues in respect to Night Sky preservation, BNG and landscape setting. These were all tackled and satisfactorily resolved through the application.

The new barn sits alongside the existing facilities and ensures that the client can continually improve and develop the range service they can offer their future guests.

  • Tin Tabernacle, Sherfield English

‘Tin Tabernacles’ _were prefabricated churches, chapels and halls constructed from corrugated galvanised iron. Emerging in the mid-19th century in the UK, they were exported globally. Their portability and relatively low construction costs meant they could be rapidly erected to meet religious and community needs in often overseas, in expanding settlements.

The derelict Tin Tabernacle at Glebe Garage, Sherfield English has been in family ownership for over 50 years. In order to safeguard the building for the future, the opportunity is now right to look at alternative use and we were commissioned by the Family to draw up a scheme to convert the building into a residential property.

After several years of detailed and painstaking work an application has been submitted which converts the meeting room into a 3-bed house with a small rear extension.

  • North Lodge, Lockerley

North Lodge is a listed building with is part of the Lockerley Hall Estate. We have worked with the design team to develop an acceptable proposal for the extension and remodelling of the existing lodge. The application is currently with Test Valley Borough Council.

RIBA Stage 1 / 2 Feasibility/Pre-Application Advice

  • Residential Development Site, Weymouth

A great opportunity to be involved in the redevelopment of a large site in Dorset. The site has languished for a number of years and we were approached by the client, through Savills, whom we have worked with for many years, as a good fit with their ethos to develop a customised, responsive solution which delivers a wide range of family accommodation.

  • Poultry Shed Development, Wiltshire

Working with our clients at Gurston Farm we are developing a proposal for the future use of a range of old poultry sheds as artisan workshops and studios. This will result in an application being made under Notification for Prior Approval under Class R – change of use.

  • Tennis Club Projects, South London

Feasibility studies for the development of 2 private tennis clubs in South London. Recommendation emerged from our continued work at Odyssey Health Club in Stevenage.
